Back To The Tracks
An oddity, indeed. This album was recorded in 1960, months after Brooks’ masterpiece, True Blue. It has a phenomenal lineup (Jackie McLean, Art Taylor, Kenny Drew, Blue Mitchell, and Paul Chambers), and yet Blue Note stuck it in a vault, unreleased. In 1985, Mosaic released a Complete Blue Note box of Brooks’ work as a leader and this fantastic album saw the light of day. Five years later, Toshiba presses some promos, presumably readying the title for release in Japan, for the first time as an unboxed title… and then shelves it again and it isn’t properly released on vinyl until 15 years later when it comes out in audiophile edition in America in 2005. This is one of those pressed Japanese promos. Both labels and cover are printed (not stamped) “Not for sale”.
Perfect shape in and out. Sounds and looks amazing.
